Al and Carol Blake
Jervis Bay Collaborators
Carol and Al Blake attended universities in northern Scotland in the 1980s; Al obtaining his degree in marine biology, with Carol graduating in botany and soil science. After emigrating to Australia in the early 90s they spent 2 years managing the One Tree Island Research Station. Living and working in such a remote and isolated location, 95kms from mainland, required resilience, a multitude of practical skills and a sense of humour. After One Tree they spent extensive time living and working in the pacific islands, including 2 years in Solomon Islands and 5 years in New Caledonia, before returning to Canberra to deliver several roles in the Commonwealth and Territory governments as well as the CSIRO.
They are now semi-retired citizen scientists who have relocated to Jervis Bay on the NSW South Coast where they are avid SCUBA divers, whale watchers, naturalists and grand-parents.
